A dependable and versatile perennial that requires little care. Grown mostly for its beautiful foliage which provides colour and texture for the woodland garden. Dense foliage crowds out most weeds. Also excellent as a bonsai accent.
A dwarf species, forming a very small mound of about four inches of dark satiny, slightly undulate, oval to heart shaped green foliage. Some red on the 10" scapes and funnel-shaped, violet flowers. Creeping rhizomes.
venusta is called Otome Giboshi in Japan, the “beautiful maiden hosta”. Justly awarded the prestigious AGM by the RHS.
It is a Korean native found on Cheju Island. Has characteristic lengthwise ridges on the scape. One of the smallest species with many different leaf forms known. Plants belonging to it have been widely used in hybridizing.
Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in part shade to full shade. Does best in a rich, moist soil in light, dappled shade.
